About Chalkidiki
Chalkidiki consists of a large peninsula in the northwestern Aegean Sea, resembling a hand with three “fingers” (though in Greek these peninsulas are often referred to as “legs”). From west to east, these are Kassandra, Sithonia, and Mount Athos, a special polity within Greece known for its monasteries. The capital of Chalkidiki is the main town of Polygyros, located in the center of the peninsula. Chalkidiki is a popular summer tourist destination.
The Toronean Gulf and the Singitic Gulf separate the peninsulas. The Chalkidiki borders on the regional unit of Thessaloniki to the north, and is bounded by the Thermaic Gulf on the west and the Strymonian Gulf on the east.
This is a place where all your senses will come to life, whether on the endless expanses of sand of the fashionable, cosmopolitan beaches or in the intimacy of the many secluded bays and coves. The scent of the pine trees and the salt brine of the sea combine to relax the body and spirit, leaving you at peace to enjoy the grandeur of the regions famed sunrises and sunsets.
The peninsula is notable for its olive oil and its green olives production. Also, various types of honey and wine are produced.
As locals say like Chalkidiki, nowhere.
Kassandra peninsula
Kassandra is a peninsula in the Halkidiki region of eastern Greece, known for its beaches. It’s separated from the mainland by the ancient Nea Potidea Canal. It benefits from versatile landscapes and villages with different characteristics and advantages. If you are looking for island-summer-feeling including parties and beach-bars, Kassandra has it. If you prefer to stay in an idyllic fishing-village or picturesque mountain-village, focused on hiking-tours and traditional fish-taverns, Kassandra is the right place to go also.
Sithonia peninsula
Sithonia, also known as Longos, is a peninsula of Chalkidiki, which itself is located on a larger peninsula within Greece. The Kassandra Peninsula lies to the west of Sithonia and the Mount Athos peninsula to the east. Sithonia is also a municipality, covering the Sithonia peninsula. The seat of the municipality is the town Nikiti.
Mount Athos
Mount Athos has been inhabited since ancient times and is known for its nearly 1,800-year continuous Christian presence and its long historical monastic traditions, which date back to at least 800 A.D. and the Byzantine era. Today, over 2,000 monks from Greece and many other countries, live an ascetic life in Athos, isolated from the rest of the world. The Athonite monasteries feature a rich collection of well-preserved artifacts, rare books, ancient documents, and artworks of immense historical value, and Mount Athos has been listed as a World Heritage site since 1988. In Mount Athos, only males are allowed to enter.
